rom humble beginnings back in 1843, a Whisky pioneer named William Matheson converted the local brewery in Tain (Highlands, Scotland) into a distillery. A distillery now known today as Glenmorangie. Although ownership has changed over the years, the Glenmorangie brand continued to grow to become the third largest selling single malt supplier in the world. This year Glenmorangie celebrate their 175 Distil-a-versary.
To celebrate this special landmark, Glenmorangie have released 191individually numbered bottles of this non-chill filtered, 53.1% ABV, single cask, single malt Scotch. Distilled in September 2001, this golden expression was matured in a handpicked first-fill ex Bourbon cask for 16 years until it was bottled in March 2018.
According to Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling (and whisky creation / whisky stocks…. awesome job title),
“This single cask bottling is the perfect way for us to mark such a seminal year in the distillery’s history. Its aromas of vanilla and coconut, and richly balanced tastes of tropical fruits, spice and oak, offer a unique insight into Glenmorangie’s quintessential style.”
The 175th Anniversary Single malt went on sale yesterday for £650 ($,140 AUD) and at this time only be purchased exclusively from the distillery in Tain.
